Are you a lifer?
I’d be amazed if anyone on here wasn’t. Sky sports reckon only a third of fans support one team only and will stick with them

Country, dogs…

Re: Are you a lifer?
Some cunt encouraged me to support West Ham in 1966. They remain a cunt to this day because in a million years I could NEVER change support to a bunch of lady boys.

Re: Are you a lifer?
Thing is most of us are probably from London/Essex and we support one of the biggest teams in the country. If West Ham didn't exist I imagine a lot of the Essex people on here would support either one of the top teams or no club in particular rather than a low level club like Southend or Dagenham.

People from places like the southwest have no top level clubs at all so wouldn't surprise me if a lot of them aren't lifers.

Re: Are you a lifer?
I have to admit I chose West Ham aged nine. No one in the family was a football person. My kids are now West Ham lifers I hope

Re: Are you a lifer?
Oops!

Was going to continue I can’t imagine ever supporting anyone else now even though I grew ip in Sussex. So much of my life is linked with West Ham. If they folded I’d probably follow Billericay as they’re now my local team.

Re: Are you a lifer?
Never lived in London but my late dad was a West Ham fan and his before him. Mum was a Man United fan, born in Manchester so that's acceptable, but I chose West Ham. Looking at 75, 76 and 80 I thought it was going to be a good choice but unlike a favourite film or a favourite record to me once a football team is chosen it stays through good and bad, or in West Ham's case bad, bad, very bad, and the odd bit of good!

It's worse than that.

My familiy's been cursed unto the third generation.

Re: Are you a lifer?
Assuming 2 thirds of fans support one of the top 6, it could be close to being accurate.

Fans of less successful/unsuccessful clubs are more likely to be loyal. In my humble

Re: Are you a lifer?
Pretty much every cunt in my family ever is West Ham. I cannot respect anyone that changes team.

Why does this read as “lifter” every time I scan down the page?

Re: Are you a lifer?
ag ag ag

There may be the odd person who just watches big tournaments but doesnt actually follow much in the season and doesnt really have a team .... BUT .... this feels like a load of bollocks

Every person I know who likes football has a team. FACT
The idea that two thirds of people who reckon they are fans are people who are interested in STATS, SOCIALISING (without following a team), WANKING OFF DAVID BECKHAM or following Marcus RASHFORD because he fed some reprobate parents kids without them having to dip into their lager budget is nonsense.

There is no history of West Ham in my family. I adopted them when watching football on tv in Australia in 1974 with my Mum (Fulham fan) & brother (he adopted QPR) in between watching Australia play cricket.

Re: Are you a lifer?
All my family are west ham (except one disgraced brother who didn't really follow football anyway).

My eldest sister took me to my first game when I was 3 or 4 back in the early 70s. Dad was from Plaistow/albert docks, mum was from ilford. All my family come from east london, back to the 18th C on my dad's side and turn of the 20th C on my mums.

Similar story here.
I chose when I was 5 because Bobby Moore was my hero.
Defintely a lifer.
My first team were the Miami Dolphins as my family lived in Miami for the year when I was 4.

Re: Are you a lifer?
I chose them in 1975 because at 7 I believed that winning the FA cup was the greatest thing ever.

I was a glory hunter and I’m still here waiting.

Me too twoleftfeet 11:18 Wed Aug 11, my best friend was also a West Ham fan as his family were from West Ham and I was sick of Chelsea and QPR supporters in our area.

Lifer, my old man took me to The Boleyn when I was 5, I got my sons first season ticket when he was 5.

Re: Are you a lifer?

Started in 1980 when I was 6, I watched my first real full football match with my dad, a very nice man called Trevor Brooking scored a header and judging by my dads reaction that was a good thing.

Been my first and only team ever since.

Lifer.
Was taken to Upton Park when I was around 5 years old by my grandad in 1974/5.
Went to occassional matches in the following year and was at most home games from 81/2 season.

Mex Martillo 11:47 Wed Aug 11
Re: Are you a lifer?
Irish the way I read that, for a moment I thought your Dad was Trevor Brooking.
Your first game was the FA cup final? Nice.

Sydney_Iron 11:54 Wed Aug 11
Re: Are you a lifer?
The club you support is part of you, I can’t in anyway understand how anyone can change that, even if West Ham disappeared I would still be a supporter, maybe have teams I liked more than others, but could never replace or have the same passion for them as West Ham.

Sums up modern day fans if they do this though, fucking alien to me though.
